YAG LASER FOR VITREOUS EYE FLOATERS and PREVIOUS REFRACTIVE PROCEDURES

YAG LASER FOR VITREOUS EYE FLOATERS and PREVIOUS REFRACTIVE PROCEDURES Many of my patients with eye floaters have had previous refractive procedures such as RK, LASIK, PRK, cataract surgery with or without laser for posterior capsular opacification. This presentation discusses how this may or may not be significant in your candidacy for treatment with the YAG laser. Generally it can be summarized as none of these or combination of these previous refractive procedures would be a contraindication or reason that the floater-sufferer could not have the laser procedure done. These procedures can make it more challenging for the laser operator. Anything that changes the coherency and focus of the laser or creates multiple optical zones or reduces the working aperture that the YAG laser as to work through can decrease or diminish the quality and quantity of laser energy available to destroy the floaters in the vitreous space. It is important to note, though, that these pre-existing and previous procedures generally will not increase the risk to the patient.

The Floater Doctor, James H. Johnson M.D. is Medical Director of the only medical practice in the world specializing in, and exclusively treating bothersome spots, shadows, and clouds that affect your vision. Although common, especially changes such as posterior vitreous detachment (PVDs) as we age, these vitreous eye floaters are rarely offered treatment by your local and well qualified eye care providers, even at top specialty institutions. Dr. Johnson uses a specialized FDA-approved YAG laser to vaporize and destroy the proteins in the vitreous that are responsible for your spots, shadows, and moving blurred areas in your vision. He has been doing so since 2007 making him one of, if not the most experienced in this very specialty niche area in ophthalmology, a pioneer in this field.
