President Donald Trump argued that a new immigration rule that would allow child migrants to be detained indefinitely would bring families who had previously been separated back together and reduce illegal immigration, saying his policies provide a disincentive-- "they won't come." Taking questions from reporters on the White House lawn on Aug. 21, 2019, Trump also defended his phone call this week with NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre, his decision to cancel his trip to Denmark and his calls for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.
