US Sells F-16V to Taiwan, China Will Not Stay Silent
China will not remain silent if the United States (US) continues to plan to sell advanced F-16V fighter jets to Taiwan. Beijing also warned of potential preventive measures in addition to punishing companies involved in the agreement.
This was revealed by a senior Chinese officer, Colonel Chen Rongdi. He said Beijing considered the sale a violation of previous US commitments to China. But he did not elaborate on the additional steps China might take.
"China will not sit still," Chen stressed at a forum sponsored by the Chinese journalists' association.
"Of course, we do not rule out additional actions," he added as quoted by the AP on Thursday.
Meanwhile Colonel Cao Yanzong, a researcher at the Institute of War Studies at the Military Academy of Sciences, rejected the effectiveness of F-16V aircraft, given China's superior air superiority and armory from short to medium-range missiles.
