METHODIST MINISTER WARNS AGAINST RUSHING INTO A DECISION ON MARIJUANA ISSUE

METHODIST MINISTER WARNS AGAINST RUSHING INTO A DECISION ON MARIJUANA ISSUE Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Church Seth Ampadu is asking the Government not to rush to a decision to decriminalize marijuana. The religious leader who believes that this will have a negative impact on the youth expressed his views following news that Dominica and St. Kitts/Nevis are moving to decriminalize the drug. This has led to renewed calls from local proponents of decriminalization for government to make a decision on the issue
Superintendent Minister of the Methodist Church Seth Ampadu is calling on the Government to take it’s time in deciding whether it should decriminalize cannabis. If care is not taken the Superintendent Minister fears that it could be detrimental to the nation. In his view St. Lucia is not prepared to make that decision. Young people he says will be inclined to abuse the substance. Many of them are already doing so. He added that even if the herb was decriminalized for medical purposes measures to regulate its use need to be put in place
The Religious Leader called for a national debate on the issue. He also recommended that St. Lucia engage other Caribbean countries who’ve decriminalized the product in discussion to determine the best course of action the country should take. But how about the notion that the decriminalization of marijuana for commercial purposes can alleviate poverty?
St. Kitts/Nevis and Dominica have moved to introduce legislation to decriminalize marijuana
