To identify bigger and smaller numbers

To identify bigger and smaller numbers This is a video on how I am teaching bigger and smaller to Aakash.

But before you watch the video, giving a summary of my experiences till now on teaching Adjectives.

Nouns were concrete to teach. He learnt over a period of time. In Adjectives, visible things like Colours and Shapes I worked with Aakash and he got it. But concepts in Adjectives like Big, Small, Short, Tall, Fast, Slow etc. were Abstract and difficult for Aakash to learn. The main challenge was because Aakash had difficulty in comparison. So methods with comparison for big and small(like comparing Apple vs Pumpkin) did not work. Apple could be smaller in this example. But compared to Tomato it is bigger. Aakash was not able to make these comparisons. Prompting does not help here. Though he understood quantity in numbers still he could not use that to classify items as few or many because of the issue in the comparison.

Now in this video Aakash is learning big and small with “position” cues. In Numbers arranged in ascending order, Smaller is towards the left and bigger is towards the right. This concept seems to work for Aakash as he is visually strong and is able to get the concept with this. This approach is now working with smaller range of numbers.

However when set of numbers with higher range (say between 1-100) is given at random, he first needs to arrange them in sequence. Then he can use this method to learn big and small.

Well, lot more steps to go. But hope this is a good beginning.
