In order to get any real benefits, you have to do it every day. Look at it like you're brushing your teeth/mind every day.
You're not really doing nothing. Your awareness is like a mussel, it takes a lot of practice/exercise within your mind to make it stronger, but the more you practice, the stronger your awareness mussel gets and the more benefits you get from it.
When I say enlightened people don't exist anymore, I mean that the "idea they had of themselves" doesn't exist anymore. They exist more purely than any of us mere mortals. ;-)
