S. Korean, Chinese firms to add almost 39 million unit wafer capacity by 2021: IC Insights

반도체 생산능력 2021년 사상 최고…"D램•낸드 라인 증설"

Semiconductor companies, mostly in South Korea and China, are planning to add a record amount of new wafer capacity in the next two years, a sign they expect demand to pick up.
IC Insights... projected that next year, for 200 millimeter wafers, companies will add capacity for as much as 17-point-9 million units.
In 2021, they're expected to add another 20-point-8 million.
With a glut in the memory chip market, companies delayed adding more capacity.
These additions are expected to raise the average annual growth of semiconductor production by five-point-nine percent through 2024.
