(26 Nov 2019) Pope Francis called for "dialogue and peace" in South American countries aboard the papal plane on Tuesday. During a press conference en route home from Japan, Francis discussed the social unrest in Latin America as well as France and Hong Kong.
He did not comment on the unrest in Hong Kong, but said there are problems in many countries all over the world, adding even in "the democratic France with one year of yellow vests".
On the topic of China, Francis merely said: "I would love to go to Beijing, I love China".
Francis confirmed that Venezuela wants the Vatican to mediate in the country's political crisis.
"We are present there to help when necessary," Francis said.
He confirmed Bolivia had also requested mediation.
Francis has just concluded a week-long trip to Thailand and Japan.
