A new Leak/Rumor has surfaced recently from a somewhat credible source claiming that the PS5 will only be 9.2 Tflops. This has a lot of people feeling bothered considering the Xbox Series X is expected to end up being 12 Tflops of total compute power. The PlayStation 5 would obviously be significantly under-powered compared to the Xbox SX. After looking into this rumor a bit it has become clear to me that it is not as simple as it seems and there is actually a bit of evidence that points to Sony at one point in time considering a 9.2 Tflop PS5 set to release in 2019 but then changed course. We don't yet know which next-gen console will end up being more powerful, the PS5 or the Xbox Series X. It wouldn't make much sense at all for Sony to have a next-gen console this under-powered compared to their competition. Obviously both with offer amazing graphics and we know the PS5 will have exclusive games but there is no denying that people are interested in the power factor.
