A search in one of the NASA archives brought up 1389 instances of images with dunes in the description. We are looking at the black dunes and the coloration of them. On one side you will see rows of lighter colored structures which represent sunlight being reflected. All of this is an illusion designed to be seen from high altitude. Why would they do this.
