Indonesia produces up to 0.59 million tonnes of marine debris each year: Study Research from the Indonesia Institute of Science has revealed that the country produces up to 0.59 million tonnes of marine debris each year. The new figure may help in the government's plan to reduce marine debris by 70% by 2025. It can also counterargue a 2015 report, which ranked Indonesia second on the list of the world's biggest plastic waste producers, behind China. The 2015 report said Indonesia produced around 1.3 million tonnes of marine debris each year. Indonesia was dissatisfied with that report, and had been trying to create a baseline using data from its own sources.
