Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the best way to understand the environmental (and potentially social) impacts of a product or service, because it covers the entire product life cycle and examines multiple different impacts. This avoids the risk of burden-shifting, by which well-intended interventions cause unexpected issues elsewhere in the life cycle.
