Football News -  Virgil van Dijk eager to lead Liverpool to first Club World Cup trophy Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is relishing the challenge of delivering the Club World Cup to the Anfield trophy room for the first time in their history.The Reds head to Qatar to play in the semi-final on December 18, with the final three days later.Liverpool haven't won the Club World Cup in five previous attempts and it is something Van Dijk wants to put right this time around. 'For almost everyone in our team [at Liverpool] it's something new,' Van Dijk told FIFA. 'I think this squad can be the first Liverpool side to win the Club World Cup. 'It'll be a great experience. We're all looking forward to going out there and hopefully get that trophy as well.'Liverpool qualified for the tournament thanks to last season's Champions League triumph.  Van Dijk, who played a pivotal role in Liverpool's run to glory, said that he is looking forward to taking on teams who ply their trade outside of Europe.'It will be a big challenge,' the Ballon d'Or runner-up said. 'We're at the stage right now where we have the experience of playing international football [with our national teams]. 'We have players who've played all over the world anyway. It's going to be a totally different challenge for us but it's something that we're definitely looking forward to.'
