President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has tasked security agencies to act as fast as possible to ensure that the people of Rafi, Shiroro and Magama communities in Niger state recently attacked by armed bandits are protected from future occurrences. This was his submission while ruling on a point of order raised during plenary by the senator representing Niger East, Musa Sani and Sandy Onor representing Cross river central.
Senator representing Niger East, Musa Sani coming under order 42 and 52 decried the spate of armed banditry in his senatorial district in the last two months.
He says recent attacks led to the kidnapping of three district heads and destruction of lives and property by the bandits noting that it has resulted in the relocation of citizens to neighboring states for refuge.
He called on the service chiefs to urgently intervene to curb the ugly trend.
In a similar development, Senator Sandy Onor representing Cross-River central drew the attention of the Senate to the crisis in Boki local government of his state which has lingered for too long resulting in the loss of lives and property as a result of cult activities.
The Senate, however, directed the IGP to deploy security operatives to the affected communities in order to prevent future occurrences while urging the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the victims.
Meanwhile, the Senate has received the 2020 budget report from its committee on appropriation in preparation for the bill passage tomorrow.
