ভারত ভ্রমণে যাবেন, সাবধান | Be Careful During India Tour | India Tour | Flying Bird | Prominent personalities, activists hit streets of Kolkata against new citizenship law. Real tukde-tukde gang sitting in Delhi, says Ramachandra Guha over CAA protests

The real tukde-tukde gang are the rulers of India sitting in Delhi, said historian Ramachandra Guha. Speaking to India Today TV, Ramachandra Guha said that the people sitting in Delhi are the "real batwara" people.

"The real tukde-tukde gang are the rulers of India sitting in Delhi. They are real batwara people. They are dividing the country not just on religion but also on language and we will resist them non-violently," Ramachandra Guha said.

Ramachandra Guha was on Thursday detained on Thursday for staging a demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC at the Town Hall here, in defiance of the prohibitory orders imposed in Bengaluru.

On being asked about his detention, Ramachandra Guha said he was not violating Section 144 which was in place in Bengaluru.

"I was not violating section 144. There was absolutely no reason to impose Section 144. It was a completely knee-jerk and exaggerated reaction that I suspect came from Delhi. Delhi ordering Bengaluru what to do," Ramachandra Guha said.

He further said Section 144 was a colonial-era law and was used to suppress the non-violent struggle of our freedom movement.

"Citizenship Amendment Act is a polarising law. My detention was illegal. What kind of democracy are we becoming? I felt sympathy for the policemen today because they were embarrassed and they were acting on the orders from above. They knew there was no remote chance of any kind of violence. There was no reason to impose Section 144," Ramachandra Guha said.

When he was asked how he expects PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to respond, Ramachandra Guha said, "Gandhi was born in Gujarat but he was not obsessed with Gujarat. He was born a Hindu but he was not dogmatic about Hinduism. Gandhi was an Indian but he was willing to learn from the world. And what the polarising politics of Shah-Modi is doing is shaming us in the eyes of our founders but also in front of the world."
