More than half of Syria’s estimated population are in dire need of humanitarian aid, according to Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Mark Lowcock speaking at a Security Council meeting at UN headquarters in New York City on Thursday.
"More than 11 million remain in need of humanitarian assistance. That’s more than half the estimated population," said the UN aid chief.
Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari on his part demanded the lift of sanctions on Syria calling the measures "economic terrorism".
"What a humane act that deprives Syrians of milk, food, medicine, health care requirements, even wheelchairs for the disabled. These are all things that Mr. Lowcock does not see," said Jaafari.
