ARCHIVED! (From November 23rd, 2019) IF YOUR CHANNEL IS NOT “COMMERCIALLY VIABLE!”
As of Tues. December 10th, 2019, YouTube will be updating their terms of service yet again!! Only this time, there is something very alarming regarding their terms under the section “Account Suspension & Termination”…
Under the clause “Terminations and Suspensions by YouTube for Cause” —
“YouTube may suspend or terminate your access, your Google account, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if (a) you materially or repeatedly breach this Agreement; (b) we are required to do so to comply with a legal requirement or a court order; or (c) we believe there has been conduct that creates (or could create) liability or harm to any user, other third party, YouTube or our Affiliates.”
But then there is this striking detail noted under the clause “Terminations by YouTube for Service Changes” —
“YouTube may terminate your access, or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable.”
While the term “commercially viable” remains ambiguous, this could mean that this network, along with tons others, could have our accounts and YouTube channels deleted and/or terminated real soon…
While YouTube CLAIMS that this clause has nothing to do with terminating accounts, or that this “does not impacts creators or viewers in new ways,” there STILL remains gratuitous ambiguity on aforementioned clause!
Not only that, but in accordance with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and per the guidelines of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), YouTube channels are now REQUIRED to let their viewers know whether or not their content is made for children. Certain features such as comments, advertisements, and likes/dislikes will no longer be included on children’s content, and failure to comply could result in a fine of $42,530 PER VIDEO!!
