How would you react if you were asked to give recyclable plastic waste as your school fees instead of money? Parmita Sarma and Mazin Mukhtar, who founded Akshar foundation in June 2016, started this innovative initiative in a school at Pamohi, Assam. Assam’s only "green" school encourages its students to come with plastic waste as their fees. Out of the collected waste, some parts are sent for recycling while the rest is used as a construction material for improving the infrastructure of the school. Their effort also extends to teaching the villagers about the hazards caused by plastic pollution and the importance of segregating and recycling the generated waste.
The mission of this foundation is to make the world a better place by creating agents of change within their social circles.
