Look, today I just wanted to talk a little bit about outside perspective. And basically what I mean by outside perspective is when you're deciding or when you're thinking, "You know what, I've had enough. I just don't know what to do as a job anymore. I'm frustrated. I'm overwhelmed. I don't know what job I should do. I'm never hearing back." Sometimes getting an outside perspective outside of your family, outside of your friends is critical because sometimes it's actually right in your face and you don't realize.
So I had a consult this morning with a lovely lady and she's high level in HR and she has... It's funny. I asked her a question, and I won't say the name because then obviously I'm not going to get in trouble. But basically I said to her, I said, "Are you more passionate about the employer and backing them or the employee and backing the employee?" She actually said employer. So as we went through the consult, we talked more, talked more, and she was all employee. She's really passionate about the underdog. She's passionate about all of those passions to do with actually really making a difference to the employee.
The point of this story is, she had outside perspective that if she didn't actually have that aha moment, or someone that understood her, or someone that might've been a friend who knows her, that would just know her history and say the same thing all the time. If she didn't go outside of that... And look, a career coach is ideal for that. But even if it's not a career coach, it might be a counselor or it might be even a doctor or someone who's not even qualified, but just someone who doesn't know you, who's able to give you perspective. It's really important because this lady literally...
And this is what I do, I change lives in an hour, when I do my one-hour consults. And I kind of mirror back and I say to people, "I'm not fluffy, I will challenge you, I will really push you to your boundaries." And most people that come to me want that and need that. But I sat back and I said, "You need a small business that you can actually create things. You can really make an impact and a difference in these people's lives. Make sure it's not government. Make sure it's not this, this, this." And we culled it right down. And this aha moment that she had of, "Oh my gosh, I didn't even realize, but I'm actually all for the employee." She thought she was all for the employer.
My point here of this story is, outside perspective is critical when you are looking at wanting to change careers or you're really stuck in that rut. Because it takes that moment, that aha moment that literally takes you off a path going this way to completely change it and go this way. And if you went down that path or another four, five, 10 years, you might then realize in 10 years time that it was always supposed to be that way. So sometimes investing in yourself or even a career coach or getting that outside perspective can literally shape where you go because you need someone who's going to push the boundary, push it so that you can get that aha moment or that, "My gosh, I never thought of it like that."
That's what I wanted to come and talk to you about today. Really critical to get outside perspective, wherever that might be. That's what we help here with at Kate Langford Career Consulting. I've got Angie and Lucy that do the 20-minute consults now and I do the one-hour consults, but we really delve into to what you're struggling with so that we can really get to the core of it. And then by the end of it, the overwhelm is gone. You're feeling a sense of excitement again. You're clear about where you're going and where you're searching and what to do. That is really critical. And sometimes you can only get that when you've got outside perspective. You might not always get that from the husband or the wife or your friend or whoever it is because they just know you. So that's what I wanted to reach out today and talk about. Any questions, let me know as always. But have an awesome Tuesday and I'll see all you guys tomorrow. Bye.
