In late 2015, during her fulltime training Madelyn flew to New Zealand to compete in the Alana Haines Awards. She performed the Esmeralda variation from the Ballet of the same name as her classical entry. This variation requires strong turn technique, and an intense characterisation to carry the emotional complexity of the character, as well as good coordination of both the dancers' body and her prop. The ballet and this variation were originally choreographed by Jules Perrot, with music by Cesare Pugni.
