Cheating is a big deal. It has never and will never be a good thing. It destroys relationships, destroys friendships and even individuals. Think of cheating on a smaller scale and then think of how disastrous it can be to the lives of these individuals when they choose to marry. People don't deserve to go through with a marriage with someone, only to find out that most of their entire relationship has been a complete lie.
An Australian bride suddenly became an instant legend on her wedding day when she decided not to go ahead with her wedding because she discovered that her fiancé cheated. Instead of just walking away, she read his incriminating texts at the altar instead of her vows. Most people in her situation would have never even made it that far before exposing the wrongdoings of their partner, but the way she was going to go about it would be something nobody would ever forget.
The woman, who chose to not be mentioned, told her story to the Australian website, Whimn. She said she found the truth about "Alex" (not real name) in the piece, the night before her wedding.
According to her, she and her best friends were kicking it in a fancy hotel room when she received a text from a number she didn't recognize. "I wouldn’t marry him. Will you?” the message read, and with it came screenshots of exchanges between Alex and another woman—some from months before, others just days. Imagine cheating on someone a few days before you're supposed to marry them, like what's the point of even marrying them if you want to also be involved with someone else? Unless it's consensual with your soon-to-be spouse, why waste everyone's time with a commitment that clearly isn't genuine in the slightest way?
"I wish my GF had half the skills you do," one of the texts read. "I’ve never had this kind of connection before," read another.
"Every word [felt] like a dagger in my heart and my wedding was only hours away," the woman told Whimn reporter Danielle Colley. "How could I cancel when everyone had already traveled to be there and everything was paid for?" While this is definitely true, it's worth inconveniencing people if it means being able to avoid marrying someone that easily lied to your face all the way up until your wedding day.
Some other people would have just called the marriage off. But this woman would have none of that. For playing with her heart and breaking her trust, she decided to exact revenge. When the big day came, she threw on her dress, grabbed her bouquet, and walked down the aisle as her friends and family members watched. However, when she reached Alex, she turned to the crowd and revealed there wouldn't be a wedding that day. One could only imagine the looks of shock she was receiving from everyone after making that announcement.
“It seems Alex is not who I thought he was," she said before reading all his cheating texts aloud to the people in attendance.
"With each word, more color left Alex’s face," the woman said. "I let my weeping eyes rise and meet his, and he had not one thing to say. He stalked out of the church with his best man trailing behind him. His family looked on, horrified."
However, this woman did not let the reception go to waste. She decided to make it a fun time with her friends, and bridesmaids. They chose to celebrate "honesty, finding true love, and following your heart even when it hurts.” This sure sounds like one crazy party to us! While the whole entire "wedding" and "marriage" aspect of the event didn't end up occurring, it was still really nice that the reception didn't completely go to waste. Being in the right company and having a fun experience is the perfect way to help you get over a break-up!
Do you think she did the right thing? Should she have done it privately, away from the eyes of the public? Or do you think the man completely deserved it? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section!
