The Medical Interoperability Reference Architecture Research Collaboration

The Medical Interoperability Reference Architecture Research Collaboration The US Army Medical Research and Development Command has tasked the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and its team members Massachusetts General Hospital and DocBox to lead the development of a medical device interoperability reference architecture and prototype. This work will support future autonomous closed-loop healthcare delivery for extended periods in austere settings where skilled medical professionals may not be present and where resources such as supply chain and communications may be limited or non-existent. APL is researching, understanding, and documenting the diagnosis and treatment protocols of seven commonly occurring military clinical diagnoses for demonstration.

The project draws on the Laboratory's and team's expertise in standards development, communications system design, cybersecurity, autonomous engineering, analytics, decision support, data recording, and systems interoperability and integration.
