The Back Shop at the California State Railroad Museum - 2019 Narrow Gauge Convention

The Back Shop at the California State Railroad Museum - 2019 Narrow Gauge Convention The Railway and Locomotive Historical Society of Sacramento has been collecting locomotives and railroad equipment since 1930 and this is the backbone of the California State Railroad Museum.

But most of the collection is stored and restored in the old Southern Pacific Shops near the museum. The back shop is NEVER open to the public, but as one of the members of the historical society was also involved in the National Narrow Gauge Convention, a few participants in the convention were able to see the back shop and collection.

The museum staff NEVER allows people of groups to get in so PLEASE DO NOT ASK. We were told NOT to video the collection, and not to share any photos on the channel, and we are not showing you those images. What we are using here are photos from others and other web sites already available online. The reason they do not want photos on social media is simply because of their zero access policy. Nuff said.

HOWEVER, the back shop will be open in the future as a public part of the museum, to be called the Museum of Railroad Technologies. The entire old CP and SP shop area is being developed into a wonderfull mixed-use urban center. Construction is underway now, and we show that as well as future plans!
