House Democrats Will Try to Block Trump's Border Wall Funds

House Democrats Will Try to Block Trump's Border Wall Funds House Democrats will oppose a Trump administration request to continue financing new border fencing under a stopgap measure that would fund the federal govt through mid-December, Evan Hollander, a spokesman for House Appropriations Democrats, says in a statement.

White House requested a provision that would allow officials to finance barriers outside the Rio Grande Valley sector, where fence funds have been appropriated already.

Without the provision, a stopgap would technically finance at an annual rate of $1.375b for border barriers, but limit it to areas that are funded already.

NOTE: White House requested the stopgap "anomaly" in anticipation of a measure to extend govt funding past the Sept. 30 deadline.

"House Democrats have consistently opposed President Trump’s border wall boondoggle and will strongly oppose this anomaly," Hollander says in email.
