Addition and Subtraction of Radicals

Addition and Subtraction of Radicals This is a video about Addition and Subtraction of Radicals. In Addition and Subtraction of Radicals you can add and subtract only those radicals with the same roots and radicands.

Once you determine those with the same roots and radicands, you can combine them and separate those that are not the same. If the radicand contains a fraction, multiply the fraction with another fraction wherein the numerator and denominator of the new fraction are the same as the denominator of the given radicand.

You then rewrite the radicand with a fractional part. The numerator will be the square root of the fractional numerator and the denominator will be the square root of the fractional denominator.

If the other term that is added or subtracted is the square root of a whole number factor out the whole number with one of the factor the same as the numerator of the fractional radicand.

This is how you perform Addition and Subtraction of Radicals.
