The pivot (ankles, knees and hip) act and the upper body responds. The left knee first bends on back swing (toward the ball). On downswing, your right knee bends toward ball, but then continues in a circular motion until it points way left of the flag.
As to the backswing: The back knee (right knee) is slightly bent at address. (That angles your hips and shoulders.) Straightening the right knee and raise the lead (left heel). That will automatically bump my hips to 4 o’clock (12 o’clock being at the ball, 6 o’clock being directly behind you and 3 o’clock being at your back (right) hip at address). From there, you can turn your left side into your posted back (right) leg. As a start, you can hit the ball with deadhands and get the real feel for the pivot. You can hit it very far and accurately that way. Then, you can add the hand action. That’s exactly the progression as taught by Mike Austin. Plus there is great benefits to learning the pivot and hitting it with dead hands at first
