#NLDocumentCam : Off the Chain

#NLDocumentCam : Off the Chain This 15th-century manuscript still has its original chained bookbinding!

The binding is a vestige of a time when books would be chained to desks or shelves to foil erudite thieves who might otherwise wander off with them. Chris Fletcher, from the Newberry's Center for Renaissance Studies, tells us all about this manuscript and how medieval readers engaged with it.

[Epitome of the Summa Theologica, by Thomas Aquinas. Early 15th century. Case MS 65]
