Thailand is even cheaper to fly to than Indonesia and Vietnam. If you time it right, you can get a return flight ticket for about Rs. 8000 even. In Thailand, you can travel to either North Thailand with its mountains and valleys, Bangkok with its nightlife, or the Islands and Beaches down south.
South Thailand is considerably more expensive because beaches and islands are generally more expensive, as are mountains. However, Bangkok is really cool and it’s really cheap as well. You can get a proper filling meat at Bangkok for Rs. 100 or so.
Indonesia is also just as cheap as Vietnam in most ways. I would recommend you go to places like Yogyakarta and Bali.
The travel ticket would cost you Rs. 13000 (both to and from), and you can stay at backpacker hostels and eat at local joints for the same cost as in Vietnam.
Vietnam is the cheapest country to travel to from India. The flight ticket to and from Vietnam (if you book early) is about Rs. 20,000.
Furthermore, Vietnam is extremely well connected, and has cheap food and accommodations. You can have a delicious and filling Bahn Mi (a french Baguette with meat and vegetables) for about Rs. 50. That’s enough to make up a complete meal, trust me.
You can stay at really good backpacker hostels that serve complementary breakfast for Rs. 300 to Rs. 400 per night. Furthermore, the cost of bus travel from one place to another is no more than Rs. 600.
If you want the city life, then Colombo and Negombo are the best choices. If cold weather, tea plantations, and waterfalls captivate you, then Nuwara Eliya and Kandy are the places you would want to visit. Positioned in the Indian Ocean, it has the best shorelines and numerous varieties of delicious sea foods like sour and an endless number fish curry that will make you belch at Sri Lankan meals. Galle face is the best place to chow down street food ditching the swanky hotel meals.
