#ShovelCreekFire Special infrared aerial footage of the first day of the strategic firing operation on the fuelbreak north of Old Murphy Dome Road. You're seeing the exclusive footage of the Pilatus PC-12 aircraft equipped with state of the art cameras that fire managers used to ensure that the complicated mulit-day firing operation did not compromise the intended indirect containment lines. The footage was provided by the Colorado Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) program. Incident Commanders can order these aircraft to detect and recon wildland fires and aid them in making sound tactical decisions, improving the safety and efficiency of the response. Crews have completed the five-day firing operation to create containment lines from Murphy Dome to the Perfect Perch area and north along the dozer line in the Murphy Creek drainage to the Chatanika River. This transparent view into the operation allows you to see how the managers used a high tech approach that provides critical intelligence during periods of thick smoke when other aircraft can not fly. When private homes and infrastructure are at great risk, fire managers utilized the whole spectrum of tools available including the old school method of fighting fire with fire, and this type of high performance turbo-prop aircraft that can cruise and work safely at altitudes above 20,000 feet
