==========
I wanted to do something that was either punny in some way or two songs with the same name as well as having Octopath Traveler in there somewhere due to it's release on PC this month.
I started with trying to do a Chrono Trigger/Octopath Traveler mashup with the pun being on the composer names, but couldn't quite come up with something that wasn't a jumbled mess.
Then I remembered both FFVI and Octopath have a "Decisive Battle". "The Decisive Battle II" from Octopath and "The Decisive Battle" from FFVI both have similar chord patterns in their "A" part which helped lay the groundwork.
Now, there have been some key changes made, with Octopath's being brought up from Gm to Am to be in the same base key as FFVI's and similar changes later on.
But as a result I believe I was able to incorporate each pieces melody and most of the riffs/basslines in some way.
