The SIC data may be less reliable as it was based on different standards but still provides data that allows us to contextualize the size of the manufacturing industry in each state.
Additional Info: GDP is a measure of the total value of goods produced and services provided in a country during one year. It is Essentially the size of a countries economy. This comparison looks at only the manufacturing component of GDP and thus represents the size of the manufacturing industry in each state.
