A number of countries around Asia have earned money by recycling plastics and electronic waste from wealthy countries in the West. But the load of garbage has become overwhelming for some. In Malaysia, the volume of plastic imports has tripled over the past few years, reaching 870,000 tons last year. Now Malaysia has joined a chorus of states saying they refuse to become a dumping ground for richer nations. The government plans to accept no more plastic waste imports, following China, which halted imports of plastic waste in 2017. Subscribe:
