The US responds to a 'credible threat' by Iran in a statement from the White House. The Trump administration’s deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group and bombers to the Middle East in a response to Iran to Iran's threat, said acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.
He tweeted on May 6th that he approved the deployment on May 5th, calling it “a prudent repositioning of assets in response to indications of a credible threat by Iranian regime forces.”
In the following tweet, he added “We call on the Iranian regime to cease all provocation ... We will hold the Iranian regime accountable for any attack on US forces or our interests.”
